Today class Miss Zu taught us about transition. There are many definition of transition. However, definition of transition from literary & literary critical terms is a sentence, passage, etc., that connects a topic to one that follows or that links section of a written works. In other words, a transition word directly tells the reader the logical relationship between one idea and another idea. It can help you to make your writing coherent. This is because they can create connections between one clause and another clause, one sentence and another sentence, & one group of sentences and the next group of sentences.
IMPORTANT!!
Different type of transition word can be use for different connections that I have mention above. I will show a few example of transition below this:
- HOWEVER - tells the readers that the logical relationship between the two ideas is contrast. For example : Faizal loves to go swimming to the ocean however, his parents won't allow him to do that.
- FUTHERMORE - can be used to joining two independent clauses. For example : Hakim is a great swimmer futhermore, he is very good at scuba diving.
- IN FACT - use it to tells the readers that the logical relationship between two sentences. For example : Amri is very athletic. In fact, he plays three sports at school.
* Transition in longer writing is important when you want to let the reader know that you are changing from one idea to another idea.
