Hey guys and Assalamualikum..

Since Miss Zu is not feeling very well for last week, so I did not have to post anything. Today, we learn about synonym or contextual cluesCan you imagine how the essay would be if we kept repeating the same word until the end of the essay? If everything such as person, place, object, etc. in the world had only one word to refer to it, the essay would be a very boring for the readers. in order to make the language more interesting, we must use synonym in our writing or speaking. Basically, synonym can be defined as a word having the same or nearly the same meaning as another word or other words in a language.

For your information, we can use synonym for all parts of speech like nouns, verbs, adverbs or preposition not only for adjectives.

Below, I will list a few of example about synonym for nouns, verbs, adverbs, preposition and adjectives.

Amazing : Awesome, Incredible, Astonishing (Adjectives)
Car : Auto, Automobile, Motorcar (Nouns)
                ParticipateTake part, Join (Verbs)
                Quickly : Fast, Promptly (Adverbs)
                On : Upon (Preposition)
                Adore : Idolize, Worship (Verbs)
Enemy : Adversary, Antagonist, Foe, Opponent (Nouns)
                Famous : Eminent, Renowned (Adjectives)
Gain : Obtain, Profit, Secure (Nouns)
Gloom : Darkness, Depression, Melancholy (Verbs)

IMPORTANT!!!

We cannot easily synonym to make an essay interesting. When replacing a word with its synonym, make sure the meaning of the sentence in the specific context is maintained as well. Synonym are defined according to certain senses of words.

      For example :
This is my senior year at University.
        * Senior in this sentence cannot be replaced with the words older or elder, since yhe meaning of the sentence will change and will make less sense.
      * However, senior in the sense of fourth year can be replaced with the word last and the meaning and the meaning will remain the same as in the sentence.

Here, I provide an easy exercise for synonym. Let's try it!
